There's a technique I came across thinking about this post, which was to visualize pain like a dark cloud, and to practice saying "Bring it on!" as in, to get excited about the prospect of pain coming. And then once the pains comes, to practice saying something like "This is what I need!" acknowledging that it's a part of life and is the only way to grow. Basically mantras to help you accept pain. Handling it with gusto is apparently a key way to make it feel less painful.
