I think, as long as you feel you're delivering value, then it makes sense to start monetizing.

Often, it's not until you put some ideas out there for free and get feedback that you learn whether you're providing value or not. So in that way, "waiting" isn't for no reason -- it's to make sure you've got a good handle on why your content is worth the money!
